Shnauzer

Shnauzer

The German Shnauzers share a common ancestry and genetics with the versatile German Pinscher breeds. The progeny of this breeding program were then carefully bred with Standard Shnauzers to produce a larger version with similar characteristics. These larger dogs were initially called Mucheners and later Giant Shnauzers or Reisenshnauzers and were used to herd cattle and sheep.

The Giants also became prized as guard dogs and watchdogs for butcher shops and breweries. In fact the Giants became less popular as farmer's cattle dogs and more popular as coach dogs and guard dogs.

Intelligent dogs

Giant Shnauzers were intelligent, powerful, large enough to be a deterrent and easy to train. Small children should be thoroughly supervised when playing around the Giant Shnauzer as the breed will try and dominate them. It is still used in the world today in some places as a military dog, bomb sniffer and search and rescue dog.

The life expectancy of this miniature breed is around fourteen years and the time spend with the Miniature Shnauzer will always be a quality time. Many popular shnauzer breeders offer health guarantees when you buy puppies from them.

The miniature Shnauzer comes in the color combination of pepper, salt, black and silver. The Mini or Zwergshnauzer was originally bred as a rat catcher and watchdog but is now an extremely popular companion dog.

  • Makes a good guard dog.
  • Makes a good watch dog.
  • Easily trained.
  • Very dominant breed.

This breed easily gains weight if fed with balanced diets and regular exercise. This important conditioning of your Shnauzer associating behavior with praise is show when you teach you dog basic commands like "Sit". At the same time hold your hand a few inches above you dog, then move it a little behind his dog's head.

  • Do I have time to give a dog the attention it requires?
  • Do I have the ability to provide proper grooming, exercise and training for a dog?
  • Can I afford the expenses that come with a dog?

Small dog breeds need daily exercise but don’t need a lot of area to make them happy.
